On the Thursday before Maker Faire, we joined our summer camp friends Tinkering School, Curious Jane and Nomad School for a family friendly maker event hosted at Brightworks in the mission.

It was great to set up an activity in this amazing enviornment for teaching and learning. We took over a part of the school and created a building space for art machines, a side table for materials and a large testing area in the middle of the floor.

The doors opened at five and right away the building area was full with parents and kids working together to create interesting and unique art bots. It was really nice that the event promotion encouraged families to tinker together and I noticed some nice collaborations.

The testing floor was a big hit and added to the festive feeling for the event. Even if guests didn't want to build their own machine, they could check out the wonderful creations made by others.

Some little tinkerers even joined the machines for some robot/human artistic cross-pollination.

Overall the event was a really fun warmup for the maker faire weekend. It was great to start building connections between the organizations that we'll be partnering with all summer long to create more opportunities for tinkering.
