Toy Taxidermy at the KID museum
At the end of May, the KID museum in Baltimore, Maryland opened a new space at the Bethesda Metro Center. They’re created a “ a brand new, 28,000 square foot facility created to foster the ‘Mind of a Maker’ and empower the next generation with the skills to invent the future” with a “state-of-the-art maker space”. We were thrilled that Wonderful Idea Co. was invited to contribute a small part to this enormous undertaking.
In the circuit lab, Nicole Catrett’s whimsical dissected furby heads move their antennae, blink and look around when connected to a switch and battery pack. This installation shows the complex circuits found inside electronic toys and offers a playful take on a subject that can sometimes feel intimidating. We hope that this installation can be inspiring for kids and adults to go deeper and investigate their own ideas about electricity.
